How to clear the mental clutter that is blocking your success

What do you think about a lot? Does the way you’re thinking make things more stressful or less stressful?

Our minds can get noisy. In fact it can be so overwhelming that it gets in the way of our goals. April is the perfect time to clear out the mental clutter – such as echoes of past failures, limiting beliefs, fears or other ‘stuff’ that is taking up valuable mind space.

Mental clutter leads to congestion in our inner world and gets in the way of us being able to think clearly and focus on what really matters, sapping the vital energy we need to make headway with our dreams.

The truth is, you can have the most amazing goal, a winning strategy, step-by-step action plan and be strongly emotionally connected to it but if you still hold onto mental and emotional baggage from the past then you’re likely to get stuck in self-defeating patterns that limit your potential.

“We always have the choice of taking our past and building a better future or taking our past and limiting our future.” Richard Bandler

Unless you’ve cleaned up your past and let go of emotional and psychological baggage that you’ve been carrying around, you’ll struggle to achieve the level of success you desire.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Clean out the closets of your past and let go of your mental and emotional baggage

Ask yourself what it is that’s stopping you from having a good job; a good income, a thriving business; loving and fulfilling relationships; or a published book?

Bring it out into the open

Get a piece of paper and at the top of the page write down: The reason I can’t have … is because…

Then write down any limiting beliefs, fears, past failures, worries that you can think of that may be holding you back, no matter how silly or small. Allow it to flow out without taking it too seriously or taking too much time over it – see it as a timely mind dump!

Bringing them out into the light loosens the grip they have over you and reveals them for what they are, making it easier to clear them out.

Others, that carry more weight, may need to be challenged. Too often, we accept the reasons we tell ourselves for not having what we want without questioning whether they are reasonable or not!

Challenge your ‘reasons’

How do you know this reason is valid?

What possible solution(s) could you come up with to counter it?

Notice how it feels different to think differently.

Once you’ve de-cluttered your mind space be choosy about what you consume mentally and emotionally. Simplify your life by creating space in your mind for what matters and you’ll have all the energy you need to make your goals happen.
